She was the first to go all the way
That badge can bear a heavy weight
She loved all the attention from the boys across the camp
'Til a counselor played "Lady is a Tramp"
Another bastard of the oldest double standard
Still, she won't begrudge a Summer love
The cashier held up both her hands
The gun stuck squarely in her abdomen
And when he pulled the trigger, like a tickle from her past,
She recalled falling in leaves she'd just raked with her dad
In the swerving, yearning ambulance she smiled at the prospect
That maybe - just maybe - she'd see him yet
The mistress took his wife out for drinks
To see what kind of girl he'd keep
She was younger, she was taller, with a classic cinema beauty
But it turns out she's no lawyer, just a legal secretary
She left with her head up, with her glass half full of bourbon
And took a crooked step into the Sunset

I caught you gazing desperately to the sky.
You said “How can I be different? How can I live a better life?”
I didn’t think too much of it at the time, I just kept myself connected
and snuck by for another night.
but I know…
All the world is everything I thought that it could be
in my brightest dreams.
I cut my ties to the 24 hour kids.
They said “We’re said to see you go, I hope you finally find that hit”.
I locked myself inside my room for the week. I screamed “How can I be different?
How do I change the way I feel?”
I know…
All the world is everything I thought that it could be
in my brightest dreams.
(I know) all the world is everything I thought that it could be
in my brightest dreams.
When they commend you for your bravery, don’t correct them.
They’ll never know how terrified you are.
because if all the world’s your stage don’t shield the bright light from your face.
Let it in. Let it in.
All the world is everything I thought that it could be
in my brightest dreams.
(I know) all the world is everything I thought that it could be
in my brightest dreams.
